Miracle Siblings – Caring for the whole family

At Nationwide Children’s Hospital, the staff know that its not just children with illnesses or injuries that need expert attention and care. The siblings need nurturing as well. That’s why Nationwide Children’s Hospital started the Alliance Data Sibling Clubhouse as a special place for pre-school and school-aged children to visit, play and learn while their sibling is in the hospital. The Sibling Clubhouse is staffed with professional Child Life specialists and highly trained volunteers who help to relieve the stress and anxiety for the well siblings and the parents.

The brothers and sisters of sick or injured patients may feel many different emotions ranging from anxiety, guilt, anger, jealously and embarrassment, to loneliness, worry, grief, sadness and resentment. The Clubhouse offers a safe and supportive place for the kids to make sense of their feelings. The staff keep the children busy with fun activities that also help them cope with the emotions they are experiencing.

The Sibling Clubhouse place a priority on providing the highest quality services for the patients’ siblings because at Nationwide Children’s, they believe that care doesn’t stop with the patient. It extends to the entire family.

Place like the Sibling Clubhouse, however, cannot be covered by insurance. The Sibling Clubhouse is made possible by the support of corporate and community partners who believe that care for a sick or injured child needs to extend to the entire family. Thank you for being part of the community that supports siblings, giving the miracle families treated at Nationwide Children’s Hospital the best tools possible to get better.
